About Sheila Whittaker/Healing Sound

Healing Sound is the name under which Sheila Whittaker has worked professionally for nearly fifteen years.

Sheila is a classically-trained musician turned Sound Healer. She was originally a trained professional violinist and musician from a musical lineage, having studied at the Royal College of Music and graduating with a GRSM degree and ARCM diploma. For nearly twenty years she had a thriving career in the mainstream classical music world, freelancing with many orchestras and chamber groups, and running a teaching practice alongside her performing work. Some years ago she felt the need to use her musical abilities in a more holistic way : she did the basic Sound Healing training with Simon Heather, principal of the College of Sound Healing, and studied Gong with Don Conreaux.

Sheila is a course tutor for the UK College of Sound Healing and runs one of the main training courses for the College – the Gong Practitioner Training. She also teaches other gong, chant/mantra and harmonium workshops for the College. She is an experienced holistic therapist, teacher and player, having taught and performed music in one form or another for over forty years. She is a member of the UK Sound Healers Association, and a member of the Complimentary Medical Association. She is also a traditionally trained Reiki Master/Teacher. Sheila has specialised in the use of the Gong and other related instruments for Sound Therapy.

In 2010 Sheila published her first book : “Sound Healing with Gongs”, which was the first book of its kind on this specialist subject, and has become a classic reference book for those wishing to begin their journey with the gongs. Her second book – “In the Heart of the Gong Space” – was published in October 2012. She has recorded three Gong CD's - "Transcendence", "Quantum Transformations" and "Sounds of Stillness", Sheila’s gong workshops are held in a super rural workshop space in east Devon near Honiton. She runs a therapy practice in south Devon, on the edge of Dartmoor, and also gives private lessons when requested. She holds healing Gong Puja ceremonies and occasional group Gongbath sessions on auspicious dates.

In early 2014 Sheila began a musical collaboration with a talented young bagpiper and recorder player – Robin Andrews, known as Robin the Piper. They formed the Pandia Duo, and give concerts of early music on Violin, recorders and bagpipes. Pandia is an exciting and versatile duo specializing in early music. Our repertoire covers the medieval, renaissance and baroque periods as well as traditional music from various countries, and some modern compositions inspired by these sources. Pandia are available to hire for weddings, functions, gallery openings etc – anywhere that quality live music would add to the ambiance and enjoyment of the occasion.
